The American Elo Rating System (AERS) is a performance-based ranking system that tracks match data from tournaments, round robins, and super matches. Ratings adjust dynamically based on performance, with greater gains for wins against higher-rated opponents. The more matches recorded, the more accurate the rankings.

How AERS Works

Higher-rated winners gain minimal points, while lower-rated winners gain more.
Competitors with similar ratings exchange around 14 points per match.
To climb the rankings, pullers must defeat stronger opponents—wins against lower-rated competitors offer little gain.
AERS continuously updates rankings using match data submitted by promoters, ensuring an objective and evolving system.

Acknowledgments

Wisconsin Arm Wrestling, led by Leander Bonnet, thanks Corey Miller and Frank Callahan for developing a system that simplifies tournament setup and management. Corey integrated AERS into the Flash Tournament Bracket System, manually reviewing hundreds of brackets, while Frank engineered the dynamic AERS server to process results efficiently.
